Is Kane Set to Win Bundesliga Player of the Month Award?
The football season is one month in, and it already feels strange to see Harry Kane not playing for Tottenham Hotspur. The England striker had been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane for several years, before his record-breaking €110 million move to Bayern Munich this summer.
The move came as a surprise, as many believed the 30 year old would remain in the Premier League, with Alan Shearer’s goalscoring record in his sights.
But Kane seems to have acclimated well to life in Bavaria, and, after his debut from the bench in the DFL-Supercup, the prolific striker has hit the ground running in the Bundesliga, with 3 goals and 1 assist in his opening 3 league games for the club, including a brace against Augsburg on his home debut.
Indeed, such has been the form of the Englishman, that he is in contention for the Bundesliga Player of the Month award for August. The six candidates nominated for the award were named yesterday, and have been revealed as Kane, Bayern Munich teammate Alphonso Davies, Benjamin Henrichs of RB Leipzig, Jonas Windof Wolfsburg, Union Berlin’s Kevin Behrens, and Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface. Stuttgart forward and current leading Bundesliga goalscorer Serhou Guirassy is a surprise omission.
Many are confident that the award will be a toss up between Kane and Boniface, as both strikers have impressed so far this season, with their teams sat in the top two positions in the table. With media outlets often tending to lean towards so-called “Big Club Bias” there is a very good chance Kane could take the award.
The former Spurs man is no stranger to the PoTM awards, having scooped 7 of them during his time in the Premier League, and he could add more to his collection here. What’s more, Kane looks set to be in the running for the Bundesliga Golden Boot too, and the bookies have him as the odds-on favourite to tear up the division with his goals.
Life is going pretty well for Harry Kane right now, and, as one of Europe’s most feared marksmen, he will be hoping to continue his rich vein of form for the coming months.
